Shawn Lamont Borders, 43, was found dead at his home in Shelby, North Carolina, on the morning of November 24, 2015. The investigation determined he had been shot and killed. The shooter was identified as 36-year-old Quavis Jerome Clyde, who lived nearby.
Clyde was later convicted of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon after a three-day trial and received a 25-year prison sentence. An acquaintance, Candace Jane Cruz, picked Clyde up during the police search and transported him to Lincolnton, later giving false information; she was convicted of aiding Clyde by helping him evade police and of providing false information to authorities.
Borders was remembered for his deep faith, his landscaping work often done free for friends and elderly neighbors, and his warm, fun-loving personality. He is survived by his father J.E. Jefferies, step-father Johnny Schenck, daughter Kierra Leary, sons Devon Leary and DaShawn Hillman, and grandchildren April and Elijah; his funeral was December 1, 2015, at Unity Independence Baptist Church with burial at Sunset Cemetery.
Did anyone in Shelby know Shawn or have information about the events leading up to that November day?
