Benjamin McKinley Cunningham, 56, was shot and killed outside his home on West Morisey Boulevard in Clinton, North Carolina, on the evening of September 16, 2015. A respected member of Saint Paul Church of Christ, he was known locally for his faith, cooking, and devotion to family; he was a father and husband.

During an altercation, Washington produced a gun and shot Cunningham in the chest. Cunningham’s son Michael witnessed the shooting and called 911; Cunningham was pronounced dead at the scene after attempts to revive him.

Washington was arrested nearly two weeks later and charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. What remains unclear from these reports is whether any of the three others who were present were charged or identified. If anyone knew Benjamin or was in that neighborhood that evening, please share any information that could help shed light on what happened.
