Cory Allen Furr, 20, was shot and killed on July 18, 2015, at 2674 Red Hill Road in Maxton, North Carolina. He was found dead in the backyard of his girlfriend’s residence after exchanging gunfire with another person who had come to the home. The caliber of the weapon was not specified. Cory had previously lived at the Red Hill Road house before recently moving out.

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office identified and questioned a person of interest, but names of the girlfriend and the other individual have not been released. Cory, born August 26, 1994, in Lumberton to Vincent Smith and Brooke Furr, was known as Bro and remembered for helping and looking out for family and friends. The investigation was ongoing as authorities worked to clarify the circumstances.
