Sedrick Bernard Hartgrove, a 30-year-old African American man, was shot and killed on June 4, 2015, in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. The shooting happened in front of 700 West Gold Street; Hartgrove and another man, Sherman Devante Addison, were both shot. Hartgrove died of his wounds and Addison was left in critical condition.
Authorities charged 36-year-old James Travis Ussery in the shooting. Ussery told investigators the two men had argued with him earlier and later returned to his home trying to force their way in, and he said he acted in self-defense because he feared for his family’s safety. Additional charges were filed after Hartgrove’s death. The case experienced delays while a key witness was located, and the trial remained pending in the most recent updates.
Does anyone have information about Hartgrove, the scene on West Gold Street, or witnesses who saw what happened that day?
