Gerri Newkirk, 30, was killed at Springwood Apartments in Clinton, North Carolina, on January 20, 2015. Shortly before midnight someone fired seven shots through the front bedroom window; Newkirk was lying in bed and was struck by two projectiles. One passed through her leg and the other entered her lower face, exited and re-entered her chest. She died at the scene from loss of blood. Her three children were in a second bedroom and were unharmed.

Investigators say the shooting was aimed at Newkirk’s boyfriend, Dartez Faulk. The accused shooter, 22-year-old Antonio Cyree Lamont Lockamy, reportedly acted after a fight with Faulk earlier that day and fired into the bedroom at about 11:42 p.m. The violence left Newkirk’s children in relatives’ care and shook the Springwood Apartments community.
