Joshua Timothy Henderson, 17, of Hot Springs, North Carolina, died on January 17, 2015 from a shotgun wound to the head sustained in the carport of his home at 1180 Grassy Creek Road. He and a friend were preparing to go hunting when, according to the friend’s statement to investigators, Joshua tripped and fell, causing the shotgun he was holding to discharge. The blast struck him in the head and he did not survive.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the State Bureau of Investigation and overseen by Chief Deputy Michael Garrison, investigated and concluded there was no foul play, describing the shooting as accidental. An autopsy was planned to further confirm the cause of death. There were no arrests, suspects, or litigation related to the incident.

Joshua had been a senior at Madison High School who recently left to pursue a GED, was an avid skateboarder, and had been involved in efforts to build a skate park in Hot Springs. Does anyone have memories of Joshua or information about that day that could add context to what happened?
