Kenneth Rodney Heffner, 47, of Sylva, North Carolina, died on October 20, 2014 in an incident investigators concluded was not accidental. Heffner was found deceased and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, led by Maj. Shannon Queen, investigated the case.
Authorities charged Heffner’s son, 21-year-old Travis Lindsey Heffner, with second-degree murder in connection with the death. The charge indicates prosecutors believed the act was intentional but not premeditated; Travis was taken into custody after the investigation produced enough evidence to support the charge.
The case drew attention in the Sylva community and became a focus of local legal proceedings. Does anyone have information about Kenneth, his family, or the events leading up to October 20, 2014 that could help clarify what happened?
