Travis Lee Bellamy Jr., a 16-year-old African American male, was shot and killed on September 6, 2014, in Chadbourn, North Carolina. The shooting happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. on a Chadbourn street; one bullet grazed his left thigh and another struck him in the head, which proved fatal. Columbus County Assistant Coroner William Hannah confirmed those details.

An investigation followed. In April 2015 two men were arrested and charged with Bellamy’s murder: 19-year-old Hakeem Kili Gains of Brown Street, Chadbourn, and 20-year-old Tyriek Daquan McKinnies of Clark Street, Chadbourn.
