Dyuanna Alearah Anderson was 2 years old when she was killed on August 5, 2014, in Weldon, North Carolina. Shots were fired into her home on Cedar Street around midnight; Dyuanna was struck in the face and died of her injuries. Her 54-year-old grandmother, Catherine Price, was critically wounded, suffering seven gunshot wounds to the head and lower body.
Investigators described the shooting as retaliatory, occurring hours after a separate killing nearby. Dyuanna’s uncle, Teddy Anderson Jr., was wanted in connection with the murder of 15-year-old Keyuon Garner, who had been shot less than a mile from Dyuanna’s home. Four people were charged in Dyuanna’s murder: Jamonte Lamoncion Moody, 19; Semajs Short, 17; William David Cook, 21; and Victor Mallory, 21, each facing first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder charges. Short later pled guilty to second-degree murder and received a sentence of 300 to 372 months; Moody pled guilty to the attempted murder of Catherine Price and was sentenced to 125 to 162 months. The other two defendants were scheduled to appear in court later.
