Richard Jason McPherson, 29, of Clarendon, North Carolina, was shot in the chest and died on February 2, 2014. The shooting occurred in the Green Acres community; investigators described the wound as an apparent gunshot to the chest but released few details about how the incident unfolded.

Born in Columbus County, he was the son of Richard Hubert McPherson and Theresa Lee McPherson of Chadbourn and was survived by his wife, Kamie Danielle Strickland McPherson, and their two sons, Jaydon and Graydon McPherson. The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, led by Capt. David Nobles, reported having few leads and no arrests or publicly identified suspects.
