Gregory Jayvone McKinnies was 16 when he died on October 23, 2013, in the Green Acres Community of Tabor City, North Carolina. Soles then picked up an assault rifle and fired back, striking Gregory multiple times in the chest. Both men were taken to McLeod Loris hospital and were pronounced dead on arrival.
Gregory’s mother, Necolyia Bell, and two brothers were in the home but not involved in the shooting. Autopsies were performed by the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, and investigators reported receiving conflicting accounts about what triggered the confrontation. In the months before the shooting, Bell and Soles faced charges of possession with intent to sell cocaine and marijuana from the home; Gregory had no criminal record.
Are there neighborhood memories or details about the Green Acres Community on that day that could help clarify what happened?
