Ashwin Kumar Vaghjibhai Patel, a 62-year-old Indian-American man, was found dead in his Mount Holly, North Carolina, home on January 11, 2013. Family members who could not reach him discovered his body and called police; the cause of death was reported as multiple gunshot wounds. The killing was noted as Gaston County’s first homicide of the year.
Authorities identified the primary suspect as his son, Jiten Patel, then 28, who was arrested shortly after the discovery. He was found driving his father’s car near Ozark Avenue in Gastonia and was described as visibly upset during a court appearance, wearing a cast on his left arm. Reports state investigators concluded Jiten Patel shot his father and fled the scene. The family, owners of two local businesses including a BP gas station, was left deeply affected; Jiten Patel had a prior larceny conviction from 2005.
Does anyone have information about the days leading up to January 11, 2013, or knew the family?
