Donna Scheulen Evans, 53, of Apex, North Carolina, was found shot to death in her home office on January 16, 2011. The medical examiner reported she had been shot twice; both wounds were fatal and could not have been self-inflicted. A gun lay beside her when she was discovered.
Her husband, F. John Evans, 67, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Investigators say he was also shot and treated at WakeMed Hospital; a woman renting a room in the house heard him screaming for help and found Donna lying on her stomach. Search warrants and the investigation noted inconsistencies in John Evans’ account and allege he may have tried to stage the scene to look like Donna shot him and then herself. Computers were seized as agents probed Donna’s online contacts, including a man named Richard Renny, and whether those contacts related to motive. Donna’s family and friends described her as generous, active in her church, and a motorcycle rider.
Anyone with information about Donna, the couple’s relationship, or events around January 16, 2011 is asked to come forward.
