Sandra Davis died on April 6, 2025, after firefighters and police responded to a vehicle ablaze in an alley near 30th and Milford on Detroit’s west side. When the fire was extinguished, investigators found three victims inside the burned-out vehicle: Sandra Davis, her daughter Kourtney Davis, and Kourtney’s 9-year-old child, Ayva Sutton. Authorities described a brutal sequence: the two adult victims were believed to have been shot and the child suffered a sharp-force injury before the bodies were left in the vehicle and the vehicle was set on fire.
Police identified a suspect early in the investigation as Edward Redding, described as Kourtney’s ex-boyfriend. Officers said the incident appeared to be an intensely personal crime rather than a random act. Redding was arrested later that same day after a vehicle and foot pursuit; prosecutors pursued charges tied to his escape and federal authorities filed a firearms case alleging he illegally possessed a gun as a felon.
Neighbors and relatives described growing dread when calls went unanswered and then shock when images of the burned vehicle and the victims’ names circulated. The community gathered for vigils as investigators continued piecing the scene together.
If anyone knew Sandra, Kourtney, Ayva, or has information about what happened near 30th and Milford on April 6, please come forward.
