Melanie Diana McKenzie Ray, 24, of Red Springs, North Carolina, was killed on January 22, 2009. Robinson then drove off with Melanie’s body still in the vehicle. The car was later involved in a crash on N.C. Highway 211 between W.D. Locklear and West Carthage roads, west of Lumberton, where officers found Melanie’s body inside.

Robinson was charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon and held without bond in the Robeson County Jail. Melanie’s funeral services took place at the Matthew Rouse Jr. Resource Center and she was buried in the McLaughlin Chapel Church cemetery. The motive and the full sequence of events leading up to the shooting remain central questions in this case.
