Deonna Lynn Wood Hiatt was 19 and from Mount Airy, North Carolina when she was shot to death on January 12, 2009. She was a full-time student at Surry Community College, worked at Wal-Mart, attended Shining Light Baptist Church and was mother to a daughter, Emilee Jade Hiatt, and a son, Michael Troy Hiatt.
Her estranged husband, 26-year-old Christopher Scott Hiatt, shot her after she had sought a domestic-violence protective order against him for harassment and physical abuse; Deonna did not attend the court hearing and the case was dismissed. Deputies responding to a reported break-in found Deonna shot inside her pickup truck with her legs bound by a leather jacket. Scott Hiatt attempted to bury her body with a backhoe taken from a paving business, fled into the woods, and was later apprehended after a shootout with law enforcement in which he was wounded. He was charged with first-degree murder.
What information do readers have about Deonna’s last known movements or contacts before the shooting?
