Calvin Robinson, 61, was shot in the head during an act of intervention after witnessing a mugging in downtown Detroit in August 2013. He exited his vehicle on Jefferson Avenue near the Renaissance Center to help two young women and pursued the suspects. The shooting occurred a few blocks away at St. Antoine and Atwater streets while the Rib and Soul Festival was underway in nearby Hart Plaza, and witnesses may have been present.

Robinson was hospitalized and spent six months on life support before his family removed him in January 2014. No arrests have been announced. Police released surveillance descriptions of a group of eight black males and one black female seen near the scene, and the investigation remains open.
