Cherquito Cher Quita McDonald was 28 when she was fatally shot on April 29, 2008, in the parking lot of Burlington Industries in Raeford, North Carolina. She was shot multiple times in the head at about 4 p.m. and later died at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Jonathan Dion Melvin, who had been in a long-term relationship with McDonald and with whom she shared three young children, ages 2, 3, and 7. Family members said McDonald had ended the relationship about a month earlier and that Melvin had a history of physical abuse; she had considered but never filed for a restraining order. Witnesses said Melvin approached McDonald in the parking lot, walked a short distance with her, then shot her and fled. Police arrested Melvin in Fayetteville later that evening after a tip.

McDonald worked at Burlington Industries, juggled multiple jobs and was studying criminal justice at Sandhills Community College while caring for her children. Does anyone who knew Cherquito or saw her at work or school have information that could shed more light on what happened?
