Myiesha Danielle Bishop was 10 years old when she was fatally wounded in Mebane, North Carolina. On May 25, 2004, she was shot in the head by her father, Rufus Bishop; he then attempted to set the family home on fire with her inside. Myiesha escaped by jumping from a second-story window but was found unresponsive in the backyard and taken to University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, where she died three days later.
Investigators say the violence followed an argument between Rufus and his wife, Karen; the couple had separated earlier that year. Rufus fled the scene, was later found hiding in a drainage pipe, and was taken into custody after about an hour-long standoff. Charges initially included child abuse and arson and were later upgraded to first-degree murder, with an indictment by a grand jury and a $1 million bond.
Does anyone in the Mebane area remember Myiesha or have information about the days before May 25, 2004?
