Paul Weston was 26 when he was fatally shot on January 17, 1987, during a mass attack at the Shelby III Adult Bookstore in Shelby, North Carolina. The bookstore catered to a gay clientele; three men died in the incident and two others were seriously wounded. Attackers who witnesses described as three or four masked gunmen forced victims to lie face-down and shot them in the head, then poured gasoline and set the store on fire; the building did not burn completely.

Investigators characterized the assault as a hate crime targeting the LGBTQ+ community. Two men, Douglas Lawrence Sheets and Robert Eugene Jackson, were later charged: Sheets stood trial in 1989 and was acquitted, and charges against Jackson were dropped. No one has been convicted and the case remains officially unsolved.

Does anyone have information about Paul Weston, the bookstore, or the events that night that could help clarify what happened?
