Maurice Petrak, 54, of Independence, Ohio, died on August 1, 2022, from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was found shot at a home in the 7700 block of McCreary Road in Seven Hills and later pronounced dead at University Hospitals Parma Medical Center. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.
Investigators reported the killing was not random and that Petrak knew the other people involved. Bernard A. Murphy, 45, of Sagamore Hills, and Jenea R. Murphy, 39, of Northfield, were arrested and later indicted on counts including aggravated murder, murder, and felonious assault. Both pleaded guilty to amended first-degree felony counts of involuntary manslaughter with firearm specifications; Jenea Murphy also pleaded guilty to one felony count of having weapons while under disability. The court ordered a psychiatric evaluation for Jenea Murphy and requested jail records for a competency evaluation. Court filings indicated prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed on a total 14-year prison recommendation for Bernard Murphy, and sentencing dates were set for Bernard Murphy on June 27 and Jenea Murphy on July 25.
Maurice Petrak is remembered by family and friends as a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. Does anyone have information about Petrak’s connections in Seven Hills or the events leading up to August 1, 2022?
