Johanna Johey Crawford, 66, was shot and killed in her Oregon, Ohio home on December 16, 2021. A longtime pediatric nurse and court-appointed special advocate volunteer, she was caring for her 8-year-old great-granddaughter when the attack occurred. The child was taken during the incident and later returned safely to her grandfather.
Police identified Malcolm Fisher as the suspect. Fisher had a prior history of violent crimes, including multiple armed robberies and a recent misdemeanor assault; he had been released from jail a few months before the killing. Johanna had reported threats made by Fisher to the local 911 center the day before she was killed; the lawsuit that followed alleges dispatchers failed to act on those threats.
Johanna’s husband, Knute Huber, filed a wrongful death lawsuit naming the Lucas County 911 Regional Council of Governments, three employees, and Fisher as defendants. Johanna is remembered for her compassion and community work. Does anyone have information about Johanna, the threats she reported, or the events around December 16, 2021?
