On September 3, 2021, 20-year-old Yadiel Torres of Elyria, Ohio, was found dead on a sidewalk in the 300 block of Broad Street after suffering a gunshot wound to the head. The shooting occurred about 2:20 a.m.; Torres was pronounced dead at the scene and the Elyria Police Department responded. His family later set up a GoFundMe page to cover memorial expenses.

Police say the investigation identified 27-year-old Raython Fields of Lorain as the shooter. Authorities allege Fields and Torres argued outside a Broad Street bar, and that Fields shot Torres in the head before fleeing. Fields was arrested on September 7, 2021, and charged with murder; investigators gathered surveillance video, phone records and business records as part of the case.

Anyone who witnessed the early-morning events on Broad Street that night or has information about the argument is asked to come forward.
