Jesse Dayton Gilmore, 51, was shot and killed on July 18, 2021, at an apartment in the 800 block of North Roosevelt Avenue in Lancaster, Ohio. He was taken to Fairfield Medical Center, where he later died. Jesse’s brother, Leon Michael Gilmore, 49, called police after the shooting, was arrested at the scene, and charged with murder. Detectives from the Lancaster Police Department and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation interviewed witnesses and processed evidence at the apartment.

Prosecutors later said evidence indicated Jesse had allegedly fired a shotgun at Leon before Leon shot him; as a result, the murder charge against Leon was dropped pending further investigation. The exact events and motive that led to the altercation have not been disclosed.
