Robert Benjamine Mays Jr., known as Barz, was 29 and from Fostoria, Ohio when he was found dead July 7, 2021, in Buck Township, Hardin County. The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office ruled his death a homicide and opened an investigation with assistance from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. His body was sent to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for autopsy, and the Hardin County Prosecutor’s Office became involved as the inquiry continued.

Investigators said they were following all potential leads and told the community there was no immediate threat to public safety. A woman was later indicted on murder charges in connection with Mays’s death as the case moved through the legal system.
