John Booker, 36, of Middletown, Ohio, was shot on Yankee Road and died at a hospital on May 11, 2020. The shooting happened at about 7:44 p.m.; Booker was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

Authorities initially charged 24-year-old Dhameer Haamid Scott in connection with the shooting. Scott’s attorney said a 16-year-old was the shooter and had handed the gun to Scott during a fight with Booker. After a polygraph, the teenager admitted to pulling the trigger and was charged with murder; Scott was also charged with murder for his role in the confrontation and for handing the gun to the juvenile. Both fled out of state after the shooting and were later arrested.
