Jeanette Hayes, 55, was shot and killed at her home on Spotswood Common in Union Township on October 23, 2019. The shooting occurred after she had recently separated from her husband, James Hayes, also 55; Jeanette had said she did not want to reconcile. James went to her residence, had taken methamphetamines earlier, and rode his motorcycle to the house. He fired multiple shots through the sliding glass door, striking Jeanette in the neck and shoulder. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

James Hayes fled but was later taken into custody in Pierce Township. He was charged with murder and held in the Clermont County Jail on a $1 million bond. During the investigation he confessed, stating he intended to shoot Jeanette. The case was prosecuted by the Clermont County Prosecutor’s Office.

Does anyone have information about Jeanette’s life in Batavia or the events leading up to that night that could help clarify what happened?
