On March 16, 2019, 29-year-old Julius Moore was fatally shot inside a residence on the 14400 block of Brunswick Avenue in Maple Heights, Ohio. Two other men were shot in the same attack: 35-year-old Willie G. Ivy II was killed, and a 31-year-old man survived with life-threatening injuries. Moore had moved from Chicago to Cleveland and was described as a loving, dedicated father to two young children, Oubrey and Omari, ages 1 and 2 at the time.
Maple Heights police identified 19-year-old Jalen Smith — also reported as Jalen L. Smith, Jalen Lathan Smith, and Lathan Smith — as the primary suspect and charged him with two counts of aggravated murder and one count of attempted aggravated murder. Authorities described him as armed and dangerous and linked to the Cleveland and Chicago areas; he was located and arrested in western Pennsylvania on June 24, 2019, during a separate drug enforcement operation and returned to Cleveland to face the charges.
Anyone who knew Julius, his family, or who has information about the shooting is asked to come forward.
