Richard Latimer, 34, of Howland, Ohio, died on February 8, 2017, after being shot by police following a violent sequence the previous evening. Born October 14, 1982, in Youngstown, he worked as a laborer at 82 Auto Wrecking and was a father of three daughters and a son.Roughly on the evening of February 7, 2017, Latimer was involved in a domestic dispute with his wife, Candace, at their Mines Road home. During that dispute he allegedly shot and killed 44-year-old Van Blevins at Blevins’ home in Weathersfield Township. After the shooting, Latimer reportedly attempted to kidnap his wife and their 9-year-old daughter while armed with a black handgun; Candace escaped with the child and called police.A manhunt ended when Latimer was located near the Giant Eagle on East Market Street in Howland.
Confronted by officers, he threatened to kill himself and was shot by Howland Township Police Chief Nick Roberts and Assistant Chief Jeffrey Urso. Latimer died at the hospital from multiple gunshot wounds. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office opened investigations, and Candace and the child were placed in protective custody.
Does anyone have information about Latimer’s movements that night or about the incident at Blevins’ home?
