Joshua Weatherspoon, 35, was killed in a double homicide at his Canton home on Midway Avenue NE on August 30, 2016. He was found dead in the living room alongside 18-year-old Eryc Higgins. The shootings happened in the early morning while a woman and three children, ages 11 months, two years, and four years, were in the house; the woman escaped after having her hands zip-tied and sought help from a neighbor.

Investigators say the crime began as a kidnapping attempt that turned deadly. Isaiah Sanders, 22, and Brooke D. Clemons, 32, were implicated. Sanders admitted to shooting Weatherspoon and Higgins; Clemons, the mother of Weatherspoon’s three young children, was charged with complicity to murder and related offenses. Sanders was convicted of two counts of murder and other charges and received a 45 years to life sentence.

The case left the family and community reeling and highlighted the trauma endured by the surviving children who were present. If anyone knew Joshua, Eryc, or has information about the events that night, please come forward.
