Stephen Antonio Dukes, 26, was fatally shot in the driveway of his Sheffield Village apartment complex on August 5, 2016, after arriving home in the early morning hours. Investigators say Dukes was shot multiple times with a .40 caliber weapon that was never recovered. Evidence at the scene included Dukes’ DNA on a cellphone and sunglasses identified as belonging to Devonte A. Randleman, and a Ruger P89 9 mm pistol found inside Dukes’ residence bearing Randleman’s DNA.
Devonte A. Randleman, 24, of Elyria was charged with aggravated murder, tampering with evidence and multiple counts including murder, felonious assault, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary. Prosecutors argued Randleman and an unnamed accomplice attempted to rob Dukes’ home and that attempt resulted in the shooting. The defense said Randleman was in Sandusky for a family birthday and that the scene had been staged. A jury found Randleman guilty on all counts and he was sentenced to life without parole. Dukes’ family said they felt relief the case was resolved and frustration that Randleman had been released early from prison for a prior offense.
Does anyone have information about Dukes’ movements that night or the alleged accomplice?
