Jonathan Meadows, 41, of Warren, Ohio, died on July 28, 2016, from a single gunshot wound to the head. His death was ruled a homicide and investigators arrested his 14-year-old daughter, Bresha Meadows, and charged her with aggravated murder. Bresha said she shot her father in self-defense, alleging years of abuse and that she feared for her and her family’s safety; she had run away from home on multiple previous occasions. Jonathan’s sister disputed the abuse claims, saying he was not abusive.
The case drew widespread attention and public sympathy for Bresha, and her mother publicly described her as having protected the family. In May 2017 Bresha pleaded true to a reduced charge of involuntary manslaughter and received a sentence that included juvenile detention, a residential mental health placement, and probation. The matter raised questions about domestic violence, self-defense, and how juvenile offenders are handled.
If anyone knew Jonathan or Bresha, or has information about the circumstances leading up to July 28, 2016, please share what can help clarify the case.
