Phillip Banks, a 19-year-old Euclid resident, was shot and killed on July 17, 2016, during a Stop the Violence rally at Sims Park Beach in Euclid, Ohio. The event had been organized by residents to address community violence. A 12-year-old boy was also shot in the back at the same incident; he was hospitalized and is recovering.
Euclid police arrested two suspects after the shooting. Gerard Anthony Jones Jr., 19 and from Euclid, was arraigned on charges of involuntary manslaughter with bond set at $200,000. A 17-year-old Cleveland resident was charged with aggravated murder and related counts and was held at the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center. The investigation into Banks’ death is ongoing, and police asked anyone with information to come forward.
Did anyone at the rally or in the area that day see something that could help the investigation?
