Taiwan L. White, a 31-year-old African American mechanic and father from Canton, Ohio, was shot in the head and died on March 28, 2015. His body was later found inside a vehicle parked at a public-housing complex in Canton. The shooting grew out of a dispute over a woman.

Andrew A. Card, then 23 and a Canton resident, was charged with aggravated murder in connection with the killing. Investigators faced a lack of physical evidence, but an incriminating statement Card made to another inmate while serving time on an unrelated case became a central piece of the prosecution’s case. Card ultimately pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and in November 2015 was sentenced by Stark County Common Pleas Judge Frank Forchione to 14 years, with 11 years for voluntary manslaughter plus three years for using a firearm.

Taiwan’s family—among them his 15-year-old son Ty’Quavius Earthman and his sister Toya White—spoke at sentencing about the loss and its impact on their lives. Does anyone have memories of Taiwan or information about the events leading up to March 28, 2015?
