Walter Cook, a 42-year-old Black man, was shot on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, on College Avenue SW in Birmingham, Alabama. He survived for nine days after the shooting but died of his injuries on December 18, 2014; his death was officially ruled a homicide.

The Birmingham Police Department opened an investigation, canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and evidence. No arrests have been announced and no suspects have been publicly identified, leaving the case cold and the family without closure.
