Michael Davis, 49, of Bedford Heights, Ohio, was shot and killed in his front yard on June 25, 2014. Davis, who took meticulous care of his yard, was involved in a confrontation with his neighbor, Andre Jackson, over yard debris and drainage. The argument escalated and Jackson, who held a concealed carry permit, shot Davis three times with a .357 magnum revolver. Davis was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after the shooting.
Jackson was arrested at the scene and charged with murder. At trial the defense said Jackson felt threatened and cornered and described Davis as a neighborhood bully, while the prosecution argued Jackson used excessive force and could have retreated or called 911 instead of shooting. A judge later ruled Jackson acted in self-defense and acquitted him of murder and felonious assault charges.
Davis was a father of seven; his wife, Lisa Penn, and the family were deeply affected and the community set up a fund to help them. Does anyone who lived in Bedford Heights at the time recall the neighborhood tensions that led up to this confrontation?
