Alexis Xavier Colon Mook was 20 when he was fatally shot on January 27, 2014, at a residence on Norman Avenue near St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Ashtabula, Ohio. He was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot multiple times. His mother, Lydia Aviles, and his younger brother, Benny Alexander Mook-Colon, were also wounded; Aviles died of her injuries the next day at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Witnesses and investigators described two masked black males in dark clothing who reportedly entered the home and opened fire before fleeing on foot. The Ashtabula Police Department and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation conducted searches, executed a search warrant at the scene, and canvassed neighborhoods; the Kent State University Ashtabula campus went into lockdown and classes were canceled that day. No arrests have been announced and the case remains open.
