Darrell Smith, 24, was fatally shot on the west side of Detroit on the evening of July 12, 2011. He was standing with a female companion at the rear of his white Infiniti at the intersection of Plymouth Road and Longacre Street around 10 p.m. when two unknown individuals approached on foot and opened fire. The companion was reportedly unharmed; Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
Accounts describe the attack as sudden and appearing targeted rather than random. The two assailants fled on foot and no arrests have been made. Investigators cited few witnesses and limited physical evidence, and the case grew cold despite a public plea from Smith’s mother, Carol Smith, and a cash reward offered by Crime Stoppers.
If anyone was in the area that night or has information about who might have approached that car, please come forward. The family continues to seek answers and justice.
