Alicia Anne Newlove Castillon, 30, of Bowling Green, Ohio, was shot and killed in her home on March 29, 2007. Born March 3, 1977, in Panama City, Florida, she had attended Owens Community College and made the Dean’s List. At the time she lived on Parker Street in Bowling Green.
The shooting was described as an act of domestic violence. Her ex-boyfriend, Craig R. Daniels Jr., forced his way into the house in the early hours and shot Alicia and her then-boyfriend, 22-year-old John Mitchell. Alicia’s four children were in the home during the attack; none of the children were physically harmed. Daniels was identified as the suspect, found at his mother’s home in Louisville, Ohio, and arrested without incident. He was later convicted and is serving life with no possibility of parole.
Alicia’s mother, Kathy Newlove, formed a group called Alicia’s Voice and has spoken about gaps in protections for domestic violence victims. Alicia’s daughter, Madi Sears, has also shared her experiences to raise awareness about the impact of witnessing such violence.
