Patrolman William Douglas Glover Jr., age 30, was shot and killed on November 17, 1997, in Ashtabula, Ohio, while pursuing a robbery suspect. Glover, who had served with the Ashtabula Police Department for six months, observed the suspect, approached him, and pursued him on foot when the suspect ran. During the chase the suspect shot Glover in the right shoulder; after Glover fell the suspect approached and shot him two more times at close range. Glover was taken to a local hospital and died early the next morning.

The suspect, a 21-year-old male, was taken into custody and later convicted of Glover’s murder; he was initially sentenced to death on June 8, 1998, but that sentence was later overturned on a technicality and a new sentencing trial was scheduled for May 2024. Glover is survived by his wife and three young children. His wife, Marianne Glover Waldman, has continued to honor his memory, and the community remembers his service and sacrifice.

If anyone knew Patrolman Glover, his family, or was in Ashtabula around November 17, 1997, can you share memories or information that might help preserve his story?
