Marichell Chatman, 24, was one of three people killed in a February 13, 1994, shooting at the Bucyrus Estates apartments in Bucyrus, Ohio. Her 4-year-old daughter, Marchae Chatman, and her 39-year-old aunt, Linda Chatman, were also killed. Several others were wounded: Marichell’s boyfriend Richard Warren and her cousins, six-year-old Quanita Reeves and four-year-old Quentin Reeves.
Kevin Keith, then 30, was arrested for the attack, convicted of the triple homicide and sentenced to death. Prosecutors said the shooting was retaliation for Keith’s earlier arrest that year for drug trafficking, an arrest they linked to Marichell’s brother Rudel Chatman acting as a police informant. The trial drew controversy over witness testimony and claims of innocence, and the case has since attracted attention and calls for review.
