Karen Diane Avery was 6 years old when she was killed on April 17, 1989, in Willoughby, Ohio. She was one of five members of the Avery family taken to a muddy pit, bound with duct tape, shot, and buried together in a common grave. The killings were carried out under the direction of Jeffrey Lundgren, who at the time was a religious leader to the family. Lundgren was arrested and later convicted for the murders. The brutality of the crime and the involvement of a leader from within the family’s religious circle drew significant attention and made the case widely known.
What new details or leads can anyone from Willoughby or the surrounding area share about the Avery family or the events leading up to April 17, 1989?
