Patrolman Phillip Adrian Steinbrook, 29, of the Chillicothe Police Department died on July 24, 1979, after being accidentally shot while cleaning his service weapon. A Caucasian officer who had served six years with the department, Steinbrook was survived by his wife, two sons, his father, three sisters, and two brothers.
Authorities classified the death as an inadvertent accident; there were no arrests, suspects, or related litigation. The loss was noted as a sharp reminder of the risks officers face even during routine tasks, and memorials were held to honor his service.
