Amari Mitchell, an 18-year-old from Homestead, Pennsylvania, died after being shot on February 24, 2022. She was one of three people found inside a car late that night on East 16th Avenue after a Homestead officer on patrol heard multiple gunshots around 11:30 p.m. First responders discovered Mitchell, 25-year-old Jason Chavis, and a juvenile male, all shot multiple times. Chavis died at the scene; Mitchell succumbed to her injuries three days later. The juvenile was critically injured but survived.

No motive has been identified and police have not named any suspects. The Allegheny County Police Department is investigating and has asked anyone with information to contact their tip line. Family and friends held a vigil remembering Mitchell, who they described as witty, sharp, and having a heart of gold.
