On December 5, 2021, 31-year-old Hakeem Moran, a Black man from Pittsburgh, was found lying in a yard on College Street in Butler, Pennsylvania, after an assault that left him stabbed multiple times and shot once. He was later pronounced dead at a Pittsburgh hospital. The attack occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m. when police responded to reports of shots fired. Two other people were also assaulted during the incident and survived.

Investigators say Moran was targeted during a drug robbery. Authorities identified Brooke R. Fair-Smith and Hassan L.R. A third person, Kahlil Z.H. Rippy Jr., has also been charged in connection with the case.
