In late December 2010, 70-year-old Russell Marcillis Sr., a longtime resident of Detroit’s east side who had lived on Manistique Street near Warren Avenue for more than three decades, died after his home was firebombed. The attack occurred on the night of December 22 while Marcillis and his wife were inside. Emergency responders found the house aflame; his wife survived but Marcillis was critically injured and died at a hospital on December 23, 2010.
Investigators concluded the arson was retaliatory and intended for a neighbor after an altercation at a nightclub earlier that week. The people who carried out the attack reportedly targeted the wrong house, or multiple houses in the row, resulting in the death of an uninvolved elderly man. Marcillis was the father of a Detroit police homicide investigator, and the department questioned individuals linked to the club fight and the subsequent arson in the days after the bombing.
Does anyone have information about the nightclub altercation or the people questioned after the firebombing?
