Jacob Shedlock was an 18-year-old from Laurel Run, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, who died of a gunshot wound to the chest on November 23, 2018. He was found at 768 N. Pennsylvania Ave. just before 11 p.m. and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Luzerne County Coroner William Lisman ruled the death a homicide after an autopsy by Dr. Gary Ross.
Investigators concluded the fatal shot came from a loaded semi-automatic handgun that discharged while Shedlock’s friend, 18-year-old Kahzmeek A. Prater, was handling it and attempting to fix a marijuana blunt. Prater initially said an unknown robber was responsible but later admitted the shooting was accidental. He was charged with involuntary manslaughter and possession with intent to deliver; he pleaded guilty and received a state prison sentence of two years, nine months to eight years.
