Jazmere Brianna Custis was 19 and home for the summer from Indiana University of Pennsylvania when she was killed in the early hours of June 22, 2018. She and three friends had driven from a party in Homestead to the 1300 block of Margaret Street in Munhall in her mother’s silver Nissan. Around 2:15 a.m., an unidentified person opened fire on their stopped car. The vehicle was struck repeatedly; Jazmere was pronounced dead at the scene. The three other occupants — an 18-year-old female and two 17-year-old males — survived gunshot injuries.
Investigators say Jazmere was an innocent victim and not the intended target. A neighborhood security camera recorded a vehicle speeding away shortly before police arrived. Jazmere, a Steel Valley High School graduate studying clinical and child psychology, had plans for the coming school year and to get an apartment and a puppy. Despite family pleas and a Crime Stoppers reward, no suspects have been publicly identified and no arrests have been announced.
Did anyone in the Munhall or Homestead area see or hear anything that night that could help bring Jazmere’s killers to justice?
