On the night of May 22, 2018, 28-year-old Richard Hinton of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, was shot and killed inside a Dunlap Street residence. The shooting happened shortly before 9:30 p.m.; Hinton suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene. Two children, ages 11 and 14, were inside the home and witnessed parts of the incident.
Witness statements and court testimony allege that 22-year-old Tyree Jamal Smith of Penn Hills was present in the house with another unidentified Black male of large build and dark skin. An argument between Hinton and Smith reportedly escalated; witnesses say Smith shot Hinton in the head, fired additional shots while fleeing, and then took a handgun from Hinton’s waistband. A 13-year-old witness described hearing threats, seeing a gun passed between men, and hearing multiple shots, including a final shot from the back of the house.
Smith was arrested in New Brighton the next day after a tip and charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, illegal possession of a firearm, and reckless endangerment; the case was held for court. Does anyone have information about the unidentified man who was reported to have been with Smith that night?
