Allen Troyer was a 21-year-old Amish man from Smicksburg, Pennsylvania, who died on August 6, 2015 after an accidental shooting in the northern Indiana County Amish community. Authorities described the incident as a very tragic accident; Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman confirmed the death was accidental and not the result of malicious intent.
The shooting involved a 12-year-old cousin who accidentally fired the weapon. Because the coroner ruled the death accidental, no arrests, suspects, or murder investigation followed and the matter was not litigated. The Troyer family and the wider Smicksburg community gathered to support one another in the aftermath.
What details about that day might help others understand how the accident happened or prevent similar tragedies?
